This conjunction of an immense music industry establishment and a large software industry is new in the musical experience. The total influence — economic, political, even spiritual — is felt in every city, every concert hall, every club. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our musical experience.

In the councils of the industry WE MUST GUARD AGAINST THE ACQUISITION OF UNWARRANTED INFLUENCE, WHETHER SOUGHT OR UNSOUGHT, BY THE MUSICAL-INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX.

The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced tunes exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our turn tables or cd-players. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable discophile can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and musical machinery of pop with our analog AND digital methods and goals so that a panorama of left and right sound imagery may prosper together.
